Donn Schaefer is a trombonist originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, whose first professional playing included tours with the military bands in the Canadian Armed Forces. Schaefer is currently Artist/Teacher of Trombone at the University of Utah. Prior to this appointment, he served in a similar capacity at the University of Mississippi, where he taught low brass and directed the top jazz ensemble, “The Mississippians.” Schaefer is active in a wide range of genres from chamber music, orchestral playing, ballet, and commercial music to salsa and jazz. He is a Director of the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival, in addition to chairing the International Trombone Association Competition Committee. In 2008 Donn Schaefer was host of the International Trombone Festival.
