An active performer and educator, Grammy award-winning trumpet player Bruce Barrie is a founding member of the Chestnut Brass Company. While serving as Professor of Trumpet at South Korea’s prestigious Seoul National University, he performed as soloist with the Seoul Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Noted as a performer on both modern and historical brasses, he performs on piccolo trumpet, keyed bugle, saxhorn, natural trumpet, and cornetto. In addition to sixteen recordings with the Grammy award-winning Chestnut Brass Company, he is solo natural trumpet on the critically acclaimed Buxtehude Project (PGM Recordings) and is solo trumpet on the widely praised Naxos recording of the chamber music of George Antheil with the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

A review of his performance of J.S. Bach’s monumental work the Christmas Oratorio with Pro Musica Colorado called him “the hero of the night”. Dr. Barrie has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra. He has taught at Temple University in Philadelphia and at Westchester University. Dr. Barrie has frequently served on the trumpet and brass quintet juries of the International Brass Competition in Jeju, South Korea. A Long Island native, he studied with James Burke and continued his studies with Samuel Krauss and Frank Kaderabek in Philadelphia. He earned his DMA from the University of Colorado Boulder.
